User Research and Analysis

This section includes User Research and Analysis demonstrating my proficiency in crafting effective research plans, gathering insightful data, and analyzing user needs.

La ‘Dame Sweet Treats Promotional Materials Project

This project was created to demonstrate my understanding of connecting theory to practice in technical communication theory. To do so, I proposed creating three promotional flyers for a local dessert business called La ‘Dame Sweet Treats. I utilized Google Docs, Zoom, Canva, and Adobe Stock to develop proposals, conduct client meetings, and design the flyers. The layout and design of the flyers were based on extensive research about the business and its target audience. I conducted a usability test on one of the flyers using Google Docs, Forms, Sheets, and Zoom. Based on the feedback, I redesigned the tested flyer. I also prepared a client memo to review the modifications in the tested flyer and deliver the remaining promotional flyers.

Skills demonstrated in this project:

Research, Content Creation, Editing and Proofreading, Client Communication, Project Management, Usability Testing, Survey and Questionnaire Design, Visual Design, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Adobe Stock, Canva, Zoom

Grammarly Usability Test Report

This project was created to demonstrate my understanding of usability testing methodologies and their application in technical communication. I conducted a remote moderated micro usability test to evaluate the clarity key feature of Grammarly, a widely used English language writing assistance tool. In my role as researcher, I analyzed the results from the pre-test survey, post-test survey, realistic task scenarios, think-aloud protocol, and a simplified System Usability Scale (SUS) to gather both qualitative and quantitative data. My report, developed using Microsoft Word, includes the testing process, results, and recommendations for improving the user experience of this feature.

Skills demonstrated in this project:

Research, Content Creation, Editing and Proofreading, Project Management, Usability Testing, Data Collection and Analysis, Microsoft Word, Zoom

Prime Video Usability Test Presentation

The group project was created to demonstrate my understanding of usability testing methodologies and their application in technical communication. The group project involved conducting a remote usability test on Prime Video to identify issues with navigating the website’s homepage, video library, and video playing. I was responsible for researching issues with Prime Video, recruiting test participants, writing survey questions, taking notes, collecting and analyzing results, and designing the usability test presentation. Our team utilized Microsoft PowerPoint to create presentation slides and various tools such as Google Doc, Google Meet, Zoom, and Airtable to develop and write test plans, questionnaires, surveys, testing scripts, and tasks.

Skills demonstrated in this project:

Research, Content Creation, Editing and Proofreading, Project Management, Collaboration, Usability Testing, Survey and Questionnaire Design, Data Collection and Analysis, Presentation Design, Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Doc, Google Meet, Zoom, Airtable

Technical Communication Conference Ad Analysis

This project was created to demonstrate my understanding of discourse analysis theory and its application in technical communication. I analyzed advertisements within technical communication conference program books, utilizing Google Sheets to compile and organize data on visual and textual elements. This paper, created using Google Docs, presents the results and discussion of my analysis, where I categorized seven common themes (financial assistance, job placement, internships, academic/professional growth, flexibility, diversity, and reputation). My research will also contribute to a larger project by my professor and program director, which examines the rhetorical strategies employed by technical communication program conference book advertisements and reflects on their implications for the field.

Skills demonstrated in this project:

Discourse Analysis, Data Collection, Research, Technical Writing, Content Creation, Editing and Proofreading, Collaboration, Project Management, Google Docs, Google Sheets
